Guides

Our guides are professional and experienced fishermen who want to show you a good time.  They are Coast Guard licensed, first aid and CPR certified, and carry survival and emergency equipment.  They will have techniques to teach that will get you into a lot of fish.  They can also show you the abundant wildlife and the scenery is magnificent, so bring your camera.

Gear and Tackle

Bearfoot Lodge has a varied selection of rods and tackle for both spin fishermen and fly fishermen.  We will have lots of what works, but we always like to try new things so bring your good ideas.

Gear to Bring

When choosing your gear, choose clothing that will be comfortable under your waders during a long day on the river. Only synthetic clothing should be worn outside of camp. Wool and polar fleece pants and jackets, polypropylene and capilene long underwear. Warm hats and gloves made from synthetic materials are also important. Try on a few layers with your waders before you come to be sure it is all comfortable. Please keep bags under 50 pounds total.  Cotton and other natural clothing can be worn around camp. Bearfoot Lodge has a washer and dryer so keep that in mind when you pack. If you have any questions, concerns, or are in need of any equipment brand recommendations please contact Chet.

Cuisine

Depending on your fishing schedule you will eat two or three meals each day at the lodge.  Throughout the week breakfast will consist of a variety of foods, such as, bacon and eggs, muffins, fruit, toast and French toast, pancakes, oatmeal and cold cereals, sausage, reindeer sausage, juices, tea and coffee. Food

Lunch usually consists of sandwiches, light entrees, homemade soups, fruit and dessert. Shore lunches will be brought along or prepared on the shore for groups that want to maximize their fishing time. Shore lunches can become quite elaborate and are a lot of fun next to a midday camp fire.

You will look forward to dinner time! The entrees will include fresh salmon, halibut, and other seafood, beef, bison, homemade lasagna and chicken dishes just to name a few.  Delicious dessert and warm spiced cider will be served nightly.

Our outdoor fire ring provides a great place to rest and digest after a day on the water and an evening meal. You can enjoy a drink or three while telling stories and laughing with everyone else. There will be a guitar around and anyone is welcome to play it or bring your own instrument for a little musical entertainment. Cuisine Photos and Recipes

Transportation

Your trip starts the moment your plane lands in Alaska.  One of our friendly staff will pick you up at the airport and make sure you have all that you need to enjoy your fishing adventure. On your way to Bearfoot lodge you will enjoy the beautiful scenery and will likely see Caribou, Brown bear, Wolf and Moose.

At Bearfoot Lodge we utilize our seven aluminum boats powered by Honda outboard four stroke engines.  These boats are designed for shallow water, speed, and utility.  We use rafts for all our float trips.

Flight Seeing

Your trip to the lodge will be a flight over Cook Inlet and through Lake Clark Park and Preserve.  On this flight you will get a very unique and spectacular view of glaciers, snowfields, green valleys that are larger than some eastern states, mountains, smoking volcanoes, and the famed Alaskan tundra.  It is very possible to see Dall sheep, grizzly bear, black bear, moose, and caribou on the ride.  Many people will count this as one of the most memorable experiences of their lives.

After crossing Cook Inlet and flying through the mountains of the Alaska Range; you will see the huge expanses of tundra that make up western Alaska.  After crossing the Koktuli hills you will descend to the lodge and continue your adventure on land and river.

Processing

We strongly encourage catch and release fishing.  However, we enjoy fresh salmon and understand that some of our guests will want to bring some of their catch home.  We take pride in how we take care of your fish and want you to enjoy it at home.  When you decide to keep a fish we will bleed it as soon as you catch it.  This ensures better quality meat on the table.  All your fish will be carefully filleted and vacuum sealed, then frozen.  Or you can opt to smoke some of your catch and take it home that way.  We have a custom built smoke house and a lot of good recipes you are welcome to try.  We also like to taste new ones so bring your ideas too.
